What a dandiya singer and dance show looks like
A live Gujarati garba singer kicks off the night, belting folk tunes and Bollywood dandiya hits you've all memorized. He's keeping an eye on the masses. If the floor is sluggish, he'll crank up the rhythm. If everyone's worn out, he'll introduce a song everyone remembers. 

The group dances with the singer. Our Garba dandiya dancing crew in New Delhi wear traditional dress for the occasion, but they also join the circle and show newcomers how to hold and wield the sticks. That makes a huge difference at a mixed party where a dozen guests have never even picked up a pair of sticks before.

You can hire the singer and the troupe either together or on their own. Many clients choose to have the singer perform the main set and then bring in a troupe to lead the dancing on the floor.

Garba and dandiya are not the same thing. 
 We often hear the two words together, so let's be clear about it when you start to plan your evening: Garba is done in a circle with claps, no sticks. Dandiya raas uses a pair of decorated sticks that are struck against each other in time with the rhythm of the music. Most nights of Navratri here in Delhi start with garba and end with dandiya once the music gets faster. Let your singer and troupe know, which one you want more of, as it affects the playlist.

Planning your dandiya night
Book early. Navratri is nine nights, and good singers and troupes get taken weeks ahead, especially for the weekend slots. If you're searching for dandiya nights near me or a dandiya events organiser in Delhi at the last minute, you will have far fewer choices. 

Check the floor. Dandiya needs a smooth, open surface with enough room for rings of dancers. A cramped floor or a stage that's too high ruins the flow.

Sort out the sound. Live singing needs a proper setup with monitors the singer can hear. Book the set so that your loudest segment concludes before any cut off time for volume.

How long do you want to go? Planning for a 2-hour show and a 4-hour show are quite different. Give us a headcount and a closing time for the venue, and we'll build the set list as a result.

Encourage guests to get their party on. Costumes, best-dressed competitions or sticks handed out at the door all get people in the spirit of the whole thing before the music even plays.
